Plymouth Schoolhouse
A nature-centered, play-based, childcare center in Plymouth, Vermont

We offer a year-round program for children ages six weeks to five years from 8:30 AM until 4:00 PM for one to five days per week. Our outdoor space includes a playground, a blacktop for riding tricycles, and woods to explore. Our spacious indoor classrooms offer cozy nooks for reading and many beautiful toys for building and imaginative play. Our caring and experienced teachers provide a nurturing, joyful experience for young children, while supporting them to grow intellectually, emotionally and socially.

Educational Philosophy
Our Reggio Emilia inspired approach to education invites children to explore, imagine and collaborate.

We create a beautiful environment for learning
The environment is the most valuable tool to encourage learning from the child’s point
of- view. Activities and materials encourage experiences that involve the child’s senses:
touch, movement, listening, sight and taste. In addition, materials and projects are
rotated and replaced in order to encourage the continued growth of the students.

We teach the whole child
Teachers act as learning facilitators and plan the physical environment to engage
children in play and exploration. Every activity and project has a purpose and is
meaningful in developing one or more particular skills. I consider the development of
the whole child when planning their curriculum.

We embrace child-centered play
Every child has a unique way of perceiving the world—children creatively contribute to
their learning experiences. Therefore, children should have control over the direction of
their day-to-day activities. This philosophy empowers each child with self-competence
and a sense of worth. Child-directed activities support this attitude when applied to the
classroom.
